Saori is the type of side character who initially does not seem to do much, but gradually sticks to the mind more and more because of a unique trait. In Saori’s case, this unique trait is none other than her headphones. Always by the side of president of the Student Council, of whom she seems to have feelings for, Saori is also one of the few friends of Misaki outside of the Sakurasou dormitory. Her role in the plot may not be of much significance but her notable character design certainly sticks to mind. Her headphones, a custom-designed full-sized model with orange ear pads, are made even more unique with her nickname “Hau-Hau” (given by and only used by Misaki) engraved on the cups. The lack of any wiring to be seen also indicate that they are wireless, which is to be expected by a student of one of the most bombastic and exciting high schools in anime. As a student whose life goals is to work with professional audio, especially being a peer of some of the greatest creative geniuses in her world, her set of headphones is a great addition to appearance. Despite that, one only has to compare her to other Anime Girls with Headphones and see her lack of presence in her placing Maybe if Sakurasou told its viewer more about who she is, she would be more appreciable relative to the competition.

The first episode of Chihayafuru introduces the charming, passionate but regrettably dense protagonist Chihaya in the midst of her clumsy high school life. One such scene shows her longstanding inner fire coming to a pause, her mind wandering back to her precious childhood experiences that forged the path leading her to who she became today. She lies on the grassy field, cutting herself from any outside stimuli through the barrier of a closed-back headphone and the hypnotic rhythm of the show’s iconic Hyakunin Isshu poetic verses. While Chihaya’s utter immersion in her task is as evident as it gets, we gradually know that there is nothing connecting this specimen of the Anime Girl with the Headphone other than her dedication to the Karuta sport. As such, we can understand that even though the headphone is part of a medium that allows Chihaya to tap into the beauty of Japanese poetry, there is little love that she directs towards the headphones in particular nor does it ever play to any importance in the show’s plot. Unfortunately, the headphone model cannot be easily ascertained with the lack of details in the shows drawings and expresses little about Chihaya’s character. As such, Chihaya’s headphones end up being outshined by the eye-catching iPod Nano, which instead speaks more of her apt decision-making in choosing a device with an intuitive UI for track selection for her Karuta habits. Therefore, Chihaya settles in 9th place where she is undoubtedly competitive, but lacks the subtle nuances that makes the girl and the headphone.

Introduced as the cranky third member of the main character’s harem, Koito’s headphones may as well be attached to her neck as there is barely a scene of her without them in sight. In fact, her headphones stands out so much that her other trademark accessory, a hair clip with a star-shaped attachment, barely leaves an impression. The headphones model is once again unclear, but the features that can be seen on it is much more impressive than our previous two entries. The single-side cable attachment inspires a greater degree of practicability than your typical Y-shape cables, which tends to get in the way more often than not, and fits Koito’s capacity and willingness to work as an independent fighter. The light-red shades of colouring, pink highlights and star-shaped decorative mark fits her overall red-theme perfectly, and certainly adds something extra to her character. Less apt is the integration of the headphones as a natural element of the show’s environment; the fact that we never even hear the music that Koito listens to nor does she ever do anything with it related to her activities as a monster-busting high schooler makes the headphones a difficult object to accept, even if they do contribute significantly to the anime girl’s personality. As a result, we have here a picture-perfect poster girl of a Anime Girl with Headphones, except that she has yet to convince us of her integral connection with the headphones in a coherent manner.

A few years ago, the anime industry was taken into a trend of adapting Light Novels about their protagonists dealing with little sister problems. Leading the charge was the popular OreImo, a show about Kyousuke and his troublesome (albeit multitalented) otaku sister Kirino, the latter of which enjoyed playing dating simulators about romancing little sister characters more than anything else. Soon after Kirino reveals her secret to Kyousuke, we viewers come to appreciate the little things about her lifestyle that creates a sense of camaraderie. Not only does she have a huge collection of games and anime relevant to her interests, she also has a brilliant set-up that maximises her capacity to enjoy them. Most importantly, she has a set of Dre Beats Solo HD in white, speaking much about her fashionable tastes and grasp of the current technological trends. The Beats brand is as popular as it is controversial, ironically reflecting the gradual development of OreImo’s reception among its audience both in Japan and in the West. While it is regarded by most common consumers as the peak of what the headphone industry has to offer, the more critical audiophile community deems it to be a step below most studio monitors or professional-grade offerings available. However, what is apparently lacking in Kirino’s appreciation of music playback quality is a demonstration of her awareness to fashion and a clear understanding of what fits her best, for nothing can possibly make more engaging gaming experience than a decent pair of closed-back bass-beating headphones.

Hanasaku Iroha is an anime about teenagers, in this case all high school girls, finding their footing in life and figuring out what they want to do with their lives. The setting has Ohana, the protagonist, be thrown into the hands of her grandmother’s holiday inn as a staff member after having lived most of her life with a less than responsible mother and begin interacting with a wealth of interesting side characters. During the scenes of her journey to the inn, we see Ohana donning a Panasonic RP-HTX7A closed-back headphones which speaks of her attentiveness to sound quality and appeals to any geeky headphones enthusiast as a more than respectable choice of audio playback devices. Ohana herself is by upbringing a full-on city girl, and seeing this particular model certainly does enhance her integration in urban society as a thoughtful individual who knows what she likes. It certainly does help that the headphones themselves look really, really good. Despite that, Hanasaku Iroha may as well be a story about Ohana losing her headphones as she develops into a character that not only has much to say, but is also willing to listen to the people around her. The RP-HTX7A never makes an appearance after the first episode and we as the viewers understand why, since we see Ohana become the person who becomes fully engaged with the world and the people around her. Therefore, it is regrettable that Hanasaku Iroha is a story about an Anime Girl with Headphones losing her headphones as part of her character’s development. One may argue that the good times were short, but in Ohana’s case, it may simply have been for the best.

At number 5 of our list, we finally have a character from an anime that is even remotely about music. Any K-On! fan can tell you that the show is much more about the slice of life than about the music, not to do any disservice to the magnificently constructed, if sparse, musical performance scenes. Mio’s entry to anime headphones-dom is exemplified in episode 13 of the first season, after the climax of the series. We get an insight of Mio’s daily life outside of the Light Music Club room and without the influence of Ritsu, finally seeing a bit of her going through life on her own. Working on the computer, she has on a more than respectable pair of AKG K701 audiophile grade open-back headphones, and is clearly used to interacting with the digital world while enjoying some kind of background music. The appeal of such a natural Anime Girl with Headphones is instant, especially when music is obviously such a huge part of her life. Later in the episode, we see Mio travel to the seaside in an attempt to gain some inspiration for writing song lyrics. During the train journey, we once again see her display a bit of tech wisdom by changing into a pair of nondescript earbuds, albeit one of which the design inspires no confidence in the quality of its drivers. It does leave a good impression for this Anime Girl with Headphones listen to her and her bandmates’ songs even when doing her own thing, and thus Mio deserves nothing less than the best-of-the-rest position of 5th place.

The iDOLM@STER’s Chihaya, unlike the protagonist from Chihayafuru, is to her very core a lover of music and of singing. Anyone who has watched The iDOLM@STER will easily recognise that beyond essentially slice-of-life shows like K-On!, The iDOLM@STER is an anime about characters chasing their dreams and pursuing a life where they can do what they love most. Our first insight of Chihaya’s inner feelings within the anime begins in episode 4, when we see her emotional struggles with life as an entertainer in the midst of trying to become a professional singer. The episode ends on the note of her overcoming these issues by relying on her fellow idols, but not to the point of being able to fully open up to even Haruka, who seemed to be closest to her. In the moments of weaknesses that follow, we see her put on a pair of blue earbuds (not unlike the ones worn by Mio) on the train ride home. Chihaya is a character who chooses to be obsessed with what she loves, and as part of her characterisation she naturally became an Anime Girl with Headphones. As an individual character within a show with a coloured cast, it is remarkable that her relationship with music is neither a gimmick nor one-dimensional. Instead, her engagement with music as a form of relaxation and as a path to her dream of becoming recognised as a singer allow even brief images of her with headphones on to have a vivid, affective impression. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the ending animation of that very episode features a shot of Chihaya wearing the Sony MDR CD900ST headphones. While momentary, her choosing a professional studio monitor over the usual consumer grade fare speaks volumes of her character’s dedication to audio reproduction. There is no debate that she is no less worthy than any of the higher placing characters of being one of the best Anime Girls with Headphones.

Although Mekakucity Actors was not a great adaptation of the Kagerou Daze media, it did allow us to put one of the hallmark of Anime Girls with Headphones into our list. It certainly helped that so much of her physical appearance borrows from the shape and form of the immensely popular Hatsune Miku, although any sense of her personality immediately makes her a distinct character to the viewer. Ene, the cyber-sidekick of the protagonist, is in essence a character whose design incorporates as much technology onto her form as possible. She exists as an eventual member of the Mekakushi Dan, a group of young teenage boys and girls possessing strange powers, who can only interact with the world through the electronic devices of main protagonist Shintarou. As touching onto her background story inevitably steps into spoiler territory, it is more appropriate to summarise that a great job has been done in her design to represent her role as one of the essential figures in the plot. The black custom-designed headphones serve as a permanent centerpiece of Ene’s techie themed physical appearance, fitting her almost as if they were the wings of a fairy. They serve as a symbol of communication between her and the physical world, reminding the viewers that despite her human-like shape, she is a formation of data that exists inside the digital world of computing devices. However, such is the charm of a character who despite being unable to physically interact with any of the other cast members is still able to create memories and flaunt her energetic personality. Ene’s greatest strength lies in a character background that fully supports the presence of her headphones and a physical design that encourages us to believe that they really were meant to be there. It is therefore no tough decision to put her behind two other anime girls who have shown an even greater synergy with their headphones.

Shirobako is a show full of characters who we recognise by sight and maybe by name, but do not really get to see much of their personal stories. Asuka is one such character, working as a recording and mixing assistant in the voice acting studio where every dubbing scene takes place in and subsequently makes an appearance in. As such, it is more than remarkable that her qualities as a particularly well-defined Anime Girl with Headphones makes her much more memorable than a typical cameo character. Asuka’s K121 Studio may not be as well-regarded as the aforementioned Sony studio monitors worn by Chihaya Kisaragi, but oozes a greater deal of personality while adding a fashionable twist. She never contributes to the scenes she is involved in other than signposting the end of a recording session with her signature 回りました― line of dialogue, but we know from how she wears her headphones (keeping one ear open) that she has been attentive to what the other characters were talking about throughout. Her interaction with her headphones is special even among the other characters mentioned in this list, simply because they do more than tell us more about who she is, but also what she is doing in a given moment. She exemplifies the reasons why the use of a prop can be more than just for aesthetic reasons as they demand from us our curiosity towards who she is and what she does, simply because the headphones exist. Anime Girls with Headphones simply do not get much better than this. In fact, it is only because of the massive strengths of the first place entry that prevents Asuka from topping this list.

Tari Tari, unlike K-On!, is a full-fledged musical anime about a number of high school choir club members singing their way through youth. Among them is Konatsu Miyamoto, whose youthful passion is sensibly matched by a practical, albeit old-fashioned and overly-glossy, pair of Zumreed ZHP-005. Cutting straight to the point, only in Tari Tari do the headphones have the level of significance that clearly demonstrates to the viewer a certain plot point, in this case Konatsu’s passion for singing, and how that ends up being a catalyst that brings the five members of the to be constructed choir club. At the climax of the first episode, Konatsu and her close friend Sawa are in town together but are separated when the latter goes to grab some ice cream. In the meantime, Konatsu is unable to contain her love for singing and breaks into song while fully immersed in the music played in her headphones, catching the attention of Wakana, Taichi and Wien who happen to be nearby. This scene is simply marvelous to witness as we see for the first time Konatsu’s belittled passion for singing in action, dismissing any of our doubts that her attempts to create her own club to have been whimsical and convincing us that someway and somehow, the five of them will come together. So, the ultimate question is how this scene puts Konatsu over all the other Anime Girls with Headphones in this list. To put it simply, it is because the headphones, for this show, is not just a window to understanding Konatsu as a person, but also as an object that enables the plot of this anime to work. It is precisely because Konatsu is an Anime Girl with Headphones that we get to witness one of the most underrated school-life shows in anime; otherwise, her ambitions will have never taken flight. Konatsu’s straightforwardness and passion won the favour of her fellow clubmates and doing so with impressive interactions with the Zumreed makes the process marvelous. She decidedly takes first place because she is an Anime Girl with Headphones and makes the concept a meaningful one.

Last year we saw a lot of long white or light violet hair, not only in kuuderes and danderes, but in general. This season still has a few of those, but its looking a bit more varied and leaning towards more blues, aquas and greens. And pink, but there’s always pink, this is anime we’re talking about! Long flowing hair - most commonly blonde or black - is usually a symbol of beauty and femininity in anime. Danderes and kuuderes are usually not ones to care about fitting into a mold and so their hair tends to be short, messy and/or asymmetrical and comes in varied colors! This season we saw a lot of short hairstyles; some brightly colored bobs, like Nanami Shiranui from Norn9 and Lelei from GATE; and even shorter shaggy styles like Mana Asuha from Luck & Logic and Koito Minase’s red shag from Musaigen Phantom World. And of course, there’s also Saki Inui’s very anime-ish asymmetrical pale aqua hairstyle in Aokana which matches her outfits perfectly. A little more than half our kuuderes and danderes had short hair this season, making it the go-to look. And the vast majority of them had unnatural hair colors. In fact, all of the long haired girls had either a cool color or an interesting hairstyle making all of them stand out in some way. Clarion from Koukaku no Pandora and Shizuru from BBK/BRNK both accentuated their innocent looks with different shades of pink, while Sylvia from Schwarzesmarken keeps her wavy violet mane wild and messy.

And while kuudere/dandere boys are rare, we had a couple this season, and though one is blond and the other’s brunet, one thing they have in common is, they both have long hair! Aoto from Divine Gate keeps his chin length; and super kuudere Tomoe Yagami from Prince of Stride has his layered, asymmetrical and in his face. Such the cool guy!

The vast majority of the danderes and kuuderes this season (though I think that’s usually the case), were pretty modest with their outfits. Granted, Sylvia shows her cleavage when in uniform in Schwarzesmarken and some girls give a peek of thigh, but you don’t really see anything else! Lelei in GATE and Merry in Hai to Gensou no Grimgar also wear the clothes required by their profession and so they are limited as to how much skin they can show. The modesty of kuuderes and danderes can also be appreciated in their choice of legwear when in school uniform. This season we saw many of these girls decked out in thigh-highs or full-on tights. Nanami from Norn9 and Mana (Luck & Logic) are completely covered up, while Saki Inui (Aokana) opts for thigh-highs and short sleeves. The boys didn’t fall behind; Tomoe from Prince of Stride was entirely covered up from neck to toe almost the entire time! Well, I guess he did show his forearms a few times…

Let’s be honest, few things say “cool chick” like a pair of knee-high or combat boots! And this season, most of the kuuderes and danderes were wearing just that. There were some pretty cool cyber boots you’d probably see at an electronic music show like Mana’s, especially when she’s Tranced with Artemis. Her boots have neon accents and buckles and are just all-around badass. Aika Suzuki’s boots in PSO2 are actually more than knee-high and they almost have a mecha-ish feel to them.

As for the more subdued looks, we have some styles we could wear on the daily! Koito wears brown fold-over knee-high boots with brass accents. Nanami Shiranui also sticks to brown but wears the laced-up style that came with the uniform all the girls wear on the ship. Sylvia of course, wears her military issue black combat boots (no laces). But not everyone’s in knee-highs, Inui rocks short black combat boots with neon green accents to match her outfit and Merry wears navy blue booties to match her outfit and hair!

Except for Lelei, all the kuuderes and danderes this season wore black in some way. Inui and Mana both wear all black except for a few accents in lime green and aqua respectively. All others have black tights, skirts or a dress in Shizuru’s case. Saki Inui’s flying outfit is green and black with black wing-like sleeves (talk about a cool-dere!). Lelei la Lelena’s outfit is mostly white and green with some blue accents and Aika Suzuki’s outfit while in PSO2 is teal colored with a bit of black and white mixed in. Koito wears the same white, teal and black pattern on her uniform as well! No doubt these were the colors of the season! Though there was quite a bit of blue as well. Merry’s outfit is mostly white, one of the seasonal colors, but her cincher and accents are mostly navy blue like her hair. And Clarion’s Lolita dress is mostly dark blue with a bit of black and white here and there. Even our dandere Aoto and kuudere Tomoe got into it! Aoto rocks a blue jacket, white tee and black pants and Tomoe is seen in black most of the time.

One thing that stood out to me this season, and even inspired me to write this article is that two of the characters I think have the coolest style wear headphones! And they happen to be a dandere and a kuudere as well. These two of course are Mana Asuha and Koito Minase. Both of them send the international sign for “don’t bother me” by wearing the biggest headphones they could find. We don’t always have headphone characters, and this season we had two!

Another unexpected trend this season was the beret. Usually a symbol of involvement in the military, the beret is no longer only for Street Fighter characters and Jean-Claude Van Damme! danderes and kuuderes can also rock this look regardless of their affiliation. Aika Suzuki’s look in PSO2 is a bit military and she wears her teal beret with pride! Shizuru opts for a cute purple beret that matches the rest of her outfit and adorns it with a cute little onigiri pin.

Another set of head accessories were ears and horns. And of course, we couldn’t have an anime list of any sort without some sort of a cat-girl making an appearance! Clarion has cute little cat ears that go extremely well with her Lolita look and Mana’s trance outfit comes with one of the coolest hoodies I’ve ever seen. It’s baggy, black and has horns!

The first spot on this list belongs to one of the most loved and well-known women in anime, Nami from One Piece. Do we really need to tell you what One Piece is about? We have Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew, the vast ocean, endless numbers of islands, superpowers, fights, friendship, a great treasure and the insistent need to explore. You know the drill. So why do we want to include Nami on this list? Her feet might not be one of the major focus points of the storyline (not even a minor one, to be honest), but who doesn’t love her long legs that are either dressed in a miniskirt or tight jeans? On top of that, she can often be seen barefoot or wearing open shoes to satisfy all of your foot fetishist dreams. Nami is without a doubt our first pick!

Moving on to a more recent show, next up we have Yume from Hai to Gensou no Grimgar. This is your adventure/fantasy/action show of the Winter season 2016. Picture the fantastic world of Grimgar that combines the best aspects of fantasy stories with compelling action. In this world, a group of strangers has to join forces in order to eliminate all evil that threatens to destroy Grimgar. Yume is a hunter girl with red hair and red eyes. With her upbeat personality she is always good for a laugh and will surely put a smile on your face. Not only will you get to enjoy her bare feet, but also her reddish stockings and shorts that are indeed very short. If you enjoy cute girls with cute feet that also know how to handle a bow and dagger, then Yume is the one you’ve been looking for.

Owarimonogatari is without a doubt a great show with lots of devoted fans. But who would have thought that it also has a special girl who caters to all fans of naked legs? That girl is Shinobu Oshino. Owarimonogatari tells a story filled with mysteries in a setting as normal as a high school. As part of the Monogatari series it continues the story of student Koyomi Araragi who somehow managed to survive a vampire attack. Now, in his third and final year of high school he gets introduced to a mysterious transfer student who might play a role in deciding Koyomi’s ultimate fate. Innocent looking Shinobu was once a powerful vampire, but has now lost her powers and is forced to walk earth as an eight-year-old girl. Usually she looks like a helpless girl, but don’t be tricked since she still has the mentality of the powerful vampire she once was. Not only do you get to see her bare legs and feet frequently throughout the show, but she also has a special bathing scene where she stretches her naked soles towards the viewers. The vicious vampire with the cute feet is our next recommendation!

You are looking for a girl who is more unique? Then check out our next pick, Erio Touwa from Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, who is convinced that she comes from another planet. The story starts with teenager Makoto Niwa who gets to move in with his aunt while his parents travel abroad. He would actually love to enjoy his freedom and spend his days in quiet and peace, but there is one girl who makes this wish impossible. As it turns out, he has a cousin named Erio Touwa who claims to be an alien and is only visiting earth to study humanity. A truly extraordinary encounter is about to unfold. The story of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko might only cater towards fans of Slice of Life shows, but the cute girls of the main cast definitely make it worth a watch. Our main heroine Erio is a sweetheart with long blue hair that walks around her home on bare feet and wrapped in a futon. It’s already hard to resist this anime cutie normally, but if you are also a fan of small feet and long legs that are barely covered by a mini skirt, then this show has to be added to your must-watch list.

Speaking of girls walking around barefoot, who would be more suited than a girl who is actually an animal? Spice and Wolf tells the love story of wolf goddess Holo and traveling merchant Lawrence. After an unplanned encounter they decide to travel together, slowly moving north to bring Holo back to her home. As you could expect, the two of them start getting closer and closer and soon enough they have to question how much they actually mean to each other. As mentioned, Holo is a wolf deity in human form. That is why you often get to see her naked feet as she is not used to wearing shoes. But it’s not really her bare feet that made us decide to include her on this list. What really makes her stand out is her agility and the preciseness with which she moves her body. So if you like wild girls that also have a gentle and innocent side, then you will enjoy Holo from Spice and Wolf.

From a girl with a simple name we are moving on to one with four different names: meet Evangeline Athanasia Katherine McDowell from the hit show Negima!. Negima! is a show that is often underappreciated because of its age, but still deeply loved by its fans for its humor and Ecchi elements. Negi Springfield is a soon-to-be wizard and only has to pass a final exam in order to become a full-blown magician. Things turn out to be much different from what he had expected and now he has to pass as an English teacher at a female-only school to prove his abilities. A fun adventure is about to begin! Evangeline is one of the students Negi has to put up with. Despite her innocent looks Evangeline is actually a vampire who can please anyone with her powerful and dominant personality. She tends to take her shoes off whenever she doesn’t feel like wearing them and also isn’t afraid to show off her lean legs in her school uniform. Her feet also don’t need to hide, especially since she is one of the few anime girls wearing nail polish. Evangeline has some of the more elegant feet on this list and since Negima! is known for its fan service, there should be something for everyone to enjoy in this show.

We continue our list with a girl that stole our hearts with one specific scene. It’s time for Mio Isurugi from MM!. If you are already a fan of Ecchi, this show is for you. Get ready to meet Sado Taro who has to realize that he is a little bit of a masochist and loves it when people make him feel miserable. To overcome his problems he joins a club that is supposed to help him out - only to realize that the other members are equally twisted and need help to overcome their own set of difficulties. Even though Mio is the head of the school club, she is still fighting her superiority complex that makes her believe she is a goddess. In one beach scene, Mio feels the need to make sure that Taro knows his place. To do that, she puts her naked foot on top of Taro’s head and keeps pushing him underwater, only to finally kick him in the face. The charm of Mio’s feet is that she knows how to use them, and coupled with her superiority complex, they make for quite a powerful tool. All fans of Ecchi stories and domination scenes should give MM! A try.

Not everyone enjoys watching naked feet. Some prefer leather and straps and that is exactly why we have included Kurumi Tokisaki from Date A Live. You might already be familiar with Date A Live, but let us give a quick overview for those that haven’t watched it yet. This comedy harem anime tells the story of Itsuka Shido who has to go on dates with spirit girls in order to save the world from imminent danger. Sounds weird? Well, that’s exactly what you can expect from Date A Live. Kurumi is one of those girls that Shido has to seduce. This turns out to be a dangerous task since Kurumi has a split personality and can easily switch between a kind high school girl and a psychopathic maniac. To top off her charming personality she wears a Lolita dress with black garter belts to hold her tight stockings in place. Her feet look almost cute compared to her tough attire and it is this contrast that grants her a spot on this list. Every fan of yandere and girls wearing stockings will enjoy our charming Kurumi.

If you are looking for more foot domination scenes, there is one girl that you cannot miss out on and that is Sena Aoi from Chaos;Head. This anime is as chaotic as its title, to say the least. As a viewer you follow otaku Takumi Nishijou on his journey as his world gets turned upside down. He gets drawn into a series of “New Gen” murders that slowly but surely become a bigger part of his life than he had expected. His reality starts to mix with imagination and he cannot be sure of what’s real and what’s fake anymore. Welcome to Chaos;Head. So how does Sena play into this crazy universe? However, her most important trait is her loyalty, especially towards Hige. She would just follow him to the end of the world if she had to. She’s perfect! <3

Leysritt is a maid but she isn’t human, either. She is a Homunclus, a being created by magic. She also serves as a teacher and bodyguard to Illyasviel Von Einzbern. Leysritt is skilled at sorcery and has silky white hair and deep crimson eyes. She has high combat abilities and a willingness to protect her charge, Illya. In dire circumstances she can sacrifice herself to become an artifact of true magic in order to make miracles happen. We see Lysritt and her counterpart Sella working their maidly duties as well as fighting in combat. The two seem to be perfect medieval-era ladies’ maids with their hair and faces partially covered; they’d fit in with King Arthur’s court as ladies-in-waiting or knights. Leysritt is also one of the rare characters to appear as the same person in a completely different anime. Leysritt is one of the characters in Fate Kaleid the Fate/Stay alternate universe spinoff that follows a young Illya in her adventures as a magical girl. The Leysritt in this show seems to have a very different attitude. She may be a maid in the Einzbern household, but she acts like a NEET and spends most of her time lounging on the couch in low-cut tops and short shorts, eating and watching TV.

We kind of have a nice threesome here in He is My Master, and that makes it a must on any list about maids. Myucel is the personal maid of the Japanese Ambassador to the Holy Eldant Empire. She is a half-elf and half-human in a world where that distinction makes you a second-class citizen. She has self-esteem problems and attempts to hide her ears, not that many men would spend too much time looking at her ears. She wears an off-the-shoulder maid uniform with a rather short, ruffled skirt. She’s illiterate but smart and determined, taking the time to learn Japanese. She’s very attached to the young Ambassador Shinichi Kanou. We find that she is more than capable of defending him with offensive and defensive magic she used while serving in the army of the Eldant Empire. She makes this list for the amount of moe, youthful and innocent femininity, she brings to the stage.

Siesta is a maid at the Tristain Academy in the kingdom of Tristain in the world of Halkeginia. Her work is hard and her life isn’t easy, especially when you consider that the Academy is a magic academy filled with the children of nobles. She accepts her lot in life until, after a mistake made during a magical ceremony, a boy from Japan ends up in Tristain. The boy, Saito, whom Siesta develops a deep love for, inspires her to stand up for herself and the other peasants. We love Siesta for her kindness, her cooking, her willingness to take on any task in her purview no matter how difficult, and her ample bosom. We also appreciate her determination to stand firm in her love for Saito and not be pushed aside by the noble Louise, the other girl vying for Saito’s love. Siesta, especially after being appointed by the Queen to be Saito’s maid, believes her life lies with him. She never lets him sleep alone, even when Louise is in his bed.

Kicking off the list is Matsu from the anime Sekirei. She is a red-headed computer genius, who is skilled in the art of computer hacking. She’s known for being stealthy and lives in a secret room at the Izumo Inn. Minato, the main male protagonist, often considers her the strategist of the group. However, what Minato quickly finds out, she likes to dip into some debauchery, at Minato’s expense. Matsu uses her resources to peep on the residents of the Izumo Inn. Not only does Xenovia take advantage of Asia’s innocence by taking her shirt and bra off, but she also forces Issei onto the ground and puts his hand on her revealed breast to initiate stimulation. You have to give her credit, when she puts her mind to something, she goes all-out!

Ayame Kajou, is what appears on the surface, to be your everyday high school student, who happens to be the vice-president on the school council. The Peace Makers had Ayame’s father, Masashi Endo, framed for raping a high school girl, thanks to a group of delinquents. With that, Ayame/Blue Snow, vowed vengeance against the Peace Makers. Ayame, who runs around exposing panties and teasing soldiers about revealing her nakedness to the city, is not your typical act of terrorism. While shouting obscene words that has a large chunk of the city full of lust, and at the peak of their sexual frustration. It’s no wonder she is the number one target to be shut down, by the Peace Makers.

What a list we have so far! We’re at the mid-way point, so let’s take a deep breath and continue this list of degeneracy. Coming in a number five is Rika Shiguma, one of the females who ultimately join the “Neighbors Club”. That’s a club for people who don’t have a lot of friends and want to make friends. Rika brings a smart, but outlandishly sexual personality to this club that often clashes with some of her fellow members. Rika is intelligent but it’s often overshadowed by her own debauchery. There’s this one instance where Rika has Kodaka read out one of her books and needless to say, it gets extremely graphic. Sometimes she likes to sneak in subtle moments for him, like when she tells him to close his eyes while she changes into a maid outfit, and she gets dissatisfied when he doesn’t try to peep on her. In some situations it’s amazing that Kodaka doesn’t give in to her. She really tries hard but it never seems to pay off.

When compiling a list of ecchi females in anime, this girl was one of the first that came to mind. It’s quite possible some of you haven’t heard of her, so let’s break it down. For starters she is an exceptional archer, with supreme accuracy. Now that we got that out of the way, it’s time to talk about her perverse side. She’s in love with the main protagonist Yamato Naoe, and she certainly shows it, much to the chagrin of Yamato, who wants to be just platonic friends. Throughout the series there were several ecchi scenes involving her and Yamato. The first one that comes to mind is the visual novel game, which she made (with some assistance) for him to play. While it was playing out, you almost wondered if you were watching hentai or not. It definitely blurred the lines with that scene. Another moment was when she crawled into his bed and started rubbing his crotch thinking it was his penis, little did she know, it was a setup and it was a large pickle she was massaging. The sexual tension continued when she took Yamato’s underwear and decided to wear it. She proclaimed that he isn’t getting it back unless he comes and takes it off of her.

We knew we couldn’t make a list without Yamada. This anime is about Yamada trying to have sex for the first time. Not just with one partner, but 100 different sex partners. Yes, she’s not comfortable with the way her vagina looks, so she finds another virgin to be her tool of lust, by the name of Takashi Kosuda. She wants to slowly ease her way into a new world of sex, before she moves onto more experienced partners. Yamada has an overactive sexual imagination and often finds herself thinking about sex, even when the situation doesn’t call for it. For example, when a guy asks for her picture, she instantly thinks that he is going to go home and masturbate to it. She collects erotic magazines, highlights sexual terms in the dictionary, what more could we need? Well she even has a top 10 sex strategies that she feels will get her to the ‘promised land’. It was hard not to make this number one, simply due to the content of this anime.

Coming in at number two is the ghost-hunter known as Panty. She’s a blonde angel, who uses her panties to transform them into a spiritual gun, known as the “Backlace” to take on ghosts. So how do we top someone who wants to have sex with 100 people? I’m glad you asked, because we have Panty who wants to have sex with 1000 people during her stay on earth. Panty always has sex on her mind and doesn’t take her ghost-hunting job as seriously as her younger sister Stocking. Panty doesn’t have high standards when it comes to guys and she will sleep with the worst of them. She often points out how bad the sex was afterwards and she keeps tabs on how many guys she has slept with. She is considered to be shameless, since she doesn’t care who is watching or recording her while having sex or pole dancing. That includes showing a porno she made in a theater of all places. The animation is different from your average Japanese anime and the subject matter certainly stands out. Consider yourself warned.

Akatsuki shows us that not every beautiful assassin in the world of anime is tall and voluptuous; sometimes beautiful things also come in small packages. Akatsuki is one of the hottest assassins out there not only because of her sharp blade but also her sharp mouth which can cut a man down just as quickly as her one of her sword slashes. Akatsuki is smart and crafty, two qualities that anyone and everyone should consider very appealing.

In this harem series, the main character is named Rito. One night while taking a bath, a mysterious girl from another world teleports in and lands right on top of him. In the ensuing chaos, the two become engaged which does not sit well with the girl's father who happens to be one of the most powerful leaders in the entire galaxy. Oh Yami, you say that you want to kill Rito and you may even think that you want to kill him but we all know that you've gone soft for him. She might be from a planet far, far away but Golden Darkness is still a highly skilled killer trapped inside an incredibly cute package. She's deadly and yet we can't really imagine being all that bummed if she set her sights on us as her next target.

As a child, the next heir of a yakuza clan named Raku met a girl who he promised to someday reunite with and marry. Now a teenager, Raku still keeps that promise very close to his heart in the form of a closed locket that he wears around his neck. Unfortunately for him, his life is about to be turned upside down due to a rival gang moving into the area. In order to keep the peace, the heads of the two gangs get together and come up with a plan, Raku and the daughter of the rival gang must pretend to be in love. Could this loud, brash girl be the one that Raku met as a child, though? What is up with assassins who can't seem to keep their minds on their jobs and follow through with the assassinations that they set out to do? She might not be the most skilled or focused assassin on this list but she's still deserving of a mention because she's just so... non-traditional. So many of the other entries on this list are very feminine but Tsugumi breaks that mold and that makes her all the more appealing because she's so very different from the rest.

Twelve assassins are all gathered in one classroom at a girls' boarding school in order to take out one target. One of these girls, Tokaku Azuma, has decided that she wants to protect this girl from all of the others. One after another the assassins strike and Tokaku must defend against them all. Isuke wins her spot on this list because she has the cool factor going for her. She's girly, sure, and like many others on this list, she has a tragic history. But when you mention this character, there are just no other adjectives to use. Sometimes you want a bad girl, an evil girl, a ruthless girl, and Alphard is just that, plus so much more. She's more woman than most guys could even think of handling and that makes her the most desirable of the bunch.

Henrietta de Tristain is first introduced in the series as the Crown Princess of Tristain, to later become the actual Queen of Tristain with the passing of her father. Henrietta makes a wonderful and honorable queen, since she really cares for her subjects and is capable of enduring great trials. Despite being so kind and loving, Henrietta proved to be a strong leader by holding off an invasion while mourning for his recently assassinated cousin and lover, Prince Wales. Eventually, Henrietta is able to overcome her loss and begins to develop feelings for Saito. As the strong ruler she is, Henrietta’s even willing to compete with Louise for the love of Saito. This lovely queen certainly knows what she wants. Talk about an iron fist in a velvet glove…

As you may have guessed, our #1 queen is Saber, also known as Queen Arturia Pendragon. Saber is the legendary ruler of Britain, regarded as King Arthur in the legend. Sabe’s known as the heroic “King (should we say Queen) of Knights”, who now serves Shirou Emiya in the Fifth Holy Grail War. As a proud knight, Saber holds her honor in the highest esteem, often letting go the chance to destroy another servant. It goes to Chifuyu Himeki from Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de, in episode 4. Typically the story of Walkure Romanze revolves around a medieval jousting tournament, but episode 7 took an extremely different turn for the fans involving the series’ two main females. Hugh finds in the basement of the mansion an enigmatic beautiful girl called Dalian, who explain to him the duties he has received with the occult library "Dantalian's bookshelf," which stores the prohibited books of the demons called “Gensho”. There’s the aristocratic Shinju, the tomboy Souseiseki, the childish Hinaichigo, the sadistic Suigintou and the feminine Suiseiseki. Then we have the flesh and blood girls, the loyal Tomoe Kashiwaba and the joyful Nori Sakurada. Rozen Maiden is a heaven of Loli fashions and inspiration of sweet femininity that will make any fan of Loli to take its pick and enjoy their time admiring their beauty and strength.

In a lot of ways, Aki Nijou is your typical nurse -- for an anime. She works at Tenbi Academy, a school for students who possess magical and spiritual energies called “elements,” and who wield crafted weapons called Makens. She is kind, a bit on the naïve side, and the classic cute klutz. Did we mention she has honking big hooters and wears clothes so tight they’re like a second skin? We didn’t? Well surprise! She does. Aki is tall with light brown eyes and blue or purple hair depending on which season you are watching. She mainly wears short skirts, tight camisoles that let her cleavage spill out, and a white lab coat to denote that she’s a health care professional. Aki Nijou, like all of the characters, also has a Maken, which is classified as a debugger type. The bugs she fixes with this magical device are injuries. She uses the device to examine a patient and see exactly what is wrong with them. She definitely has a skill attuned the world she works in, taking care of the rambunctious students in her charge. The unique skill with her Maken and the setting she works in is the key reason she makes number ten on the list.

Midori Okamoto is the school nurse at the High School on Southern Cross Isle. The island of Southern Cross has many secrets, many involving the use of giant robots called Cybodies. A power struggle over the Cybodies and their power to break the magical seals of the shrine maidens on the island is the central plot of the story. Midori Okamoto is an unknown age but seems to be in her late twenties. Midori wears a lab coat that hides a girlish figure; she has brown hair pulled back into a bun and wears glasses. She makes this list because of her obsession with young men. Midori also shows many similar traits as the closet-pervert trope, collecting candid photos of many of the male students and filling page after page of albums. She is also has a more serious role as the leader of Glittering Star Crusade’s science division as well as the pilot of the Cybody Yoddock. Her First Phase ability allows her to reverse her age and appear as she was back in High School. She often uses the ability to flirt with male students. She not only flirts with the male students but occasionally uses a potion to seduce them. So if you want to play doctor, this nurse is the perfect choice.

Eclipse is known as the “Snake Charmer” and is one of the Zodiac spirits that rebelled against their servitude. Eclipse may look like a slim, young woman with blue eyes, modest breasts, and shoulder-length blonde hair, but in reality she’s a large black snake. She keeps her top half human much like a lamia, for example Miia the lamia from Monster Musume. Eclipse wears a traditional nurse’s uniform, a one-piece dress with buttons, and a nurse’s cap with gold trim. Eclipse considers herself as a “nasty nurse” who uses her powers to make the healthy become sick. She tends to behave sadistically towards the members of the guild Fairy Tail, taking delight in her torment of its members. In some ways, she’s a comical evil villain right out of a silver age Batman comic book. Her first attack on our heroes was with thermometers and stethoscopes, playing right into the cartoonish villain act. The reason she makes the list is she is a mean and nasty nurse. You’d never want to be in her care, but she sure is interesting to watch.

Ayako is the school physician at Winford Academy and runs a café and boarding house on the side. She is a supportive, caring adult, which makes her stand out in a genre filled with bad parents. She is the kind of adult who will always give you a nudge in the right direction when you need it. The café she runs, “Tart-Time,” not only employs students and gives a couple of them a roof over their heads, but also serves as a hangout for our core group of characters. She can have an impish personality when it comes to teasing Takahiro, her cousin, about the girls in his life. She is on the list because she is a nurse and rather attractive in a lady-like way. She has long black hair and light purple eyes that draw you in. She also has a very demanding job; you see the pastime at Winford Academy is jousting. We are not talking about the modern style of jousting where you’re riding at full speed and putting your lance through suspended rings. We are talking armor-wearing, lance-wielding, medieval-style knights trying to knock each other of off their respective horses. The injuries she sees on a daily basis must be pretty severe. At most times she seems calm and relaxed, but has shown a sterner side. Like most nurses, that side comes out it to protect the wellbeing of her patients.

Miyo Takano is the nurse of a village clinic in Hinamizawa. She is 30 years old with shoulder-length blonde hair. She is very average in appearance, but we won’t hold that against her. The village she serves seems ideal but has a troubled history. The village has had a series of murders all seeming to revolve around the village festival and the village’s patron god Oyashiro. Miyo is deeply interested in village history and records and recounts her village lore and speculation to others. She also seems to derive pleasure from scaring and unnerving people with the twisted tales she can weave with her macabre local knowledge. She also seems to be a bit of a cultist nut. Miyo Tanako is a little twisted, and that’s why she makes the list. She could be classified loosely as a mad scientist. She sees the people (patients) around her as potential guinea pigs. She is driven almost beyond reason in her research into a mysterious illness, Hanamizawa Syndrome, which causes psychoses among the town’s population. Her determination and focused ends-justify-the-means mentality is one of the remarkable things about this nurse of ambiguous morality.

Michiru Onigawara is the school nurse and advisor to a rather strange club. The club is made up of students with issues; for example, the club president is hyper-aggressive and carries around a baseball bat. Another student, Yuno, is terrified of men. The club also features a student who’s a cross-dresser, and Sado, a complete masochist. The story revolves around Sado trying to cure himself of his love of being made miserable, a task taken on by the club president who’s pretty sure she’s god. You can imagine how quickly the situation can devolve into the simple story of a sadist and her submissive, making it very entertaining. Onigarawa gets on this list because she fits in perfectly with the bunch of weirdos in the club she advises. She is really into cosplay, so much so she forces her students to cosplay for her. Onigawara also seems to get some sort of perverse pleasure in taking pictures of her victims -- we mean students -- in elaborately staged scenes. She doesn’t say much and tends to blend into the background when she isn’t the focal point, but is just as involved in the crazy antics as the students. She isn’t one for interfering in the sometimes violent and crazy stunts like a real adult should, which is just another reason she makes the list -- for letting weridos be weirdos.

Shizuka Marikawa is the school nurse at Fujimi High School. She is caught up in the undead plague while at work and rescued by several of her students. She is only 26 and at times seems like she is just another one of the students. She is also not the most emotionally stable of the group. Marikawa seems to be rather fragile and can’t make sense of the world falling apart around her. She needs to be taken care of by the more responsible members of the group whenever they get in a crisis situation, most often being surrounded by hordes of the undead. Shizuka Marikawa makes the list partially for being completely true to form with her blonde hair, big boobs and ditzy nature. She also makes the list because she manages to remember her medical training and can calmly treat everyone’s wounds -- and you know she’s going to see a lot of them. She is also kind and caring and is constantly worried about how her students are handling their new lot in life as zombie killing refugees at the end of the world. She also makes the list for her many wardrobe malfunctions and her lack of modesty, giving the main character quite an eyeful time after time.

Caren Ortensia is the school nurse at our heroine, Illya’s, school. The world of Fate/Kalied liner Prismia Illya is an alternate Fate/Stay universe in which Illyasviel von Einzbern leads a simple life knowing nothing about the Holy Grail war. One day Illya gets the chance to become a magical girl with the help of a wand named Magical Ruby. She is then tasked with finding magical “Class Cards” which contain the souls of heroic spirits. Caren’s true purpose is a mystery, but she observes Illya and her friends Miyu and Kuro very closely. She even seems to have some knowledge about the magical world and the girls’ role in it. She goes as far to referring to Illya as “necessary,” Miyu as “accidental,” and Kuro as a “miraculous existence.” She is another one of our nurses who makes the list less for being a caregiver and more for her contrary attitude to healthcare. She has taken the role of school nurse simply because she likes to watch children suffer. She also gets points for the way she dresses; she wears the typical lab coat, a ruffled shirt, black stockings and short skirt. Her silver hair, side ponytail and gold eyes are just the perfect finishing pieces for this healthcare cutie.

Chisato Hasegawa is the school nurse of Hijirgasaka Academy. She doesn’t seem like it, but she is a can do pretty powerful magic, too. The 5’5” healthcare practitioner is often seen a personifying a Cake song, wearing a short skirt with a long jacket. In this case, the jacket is a lab coat and the short skirt is black and lets you see the garter hooks on her nylons. The green turtleneck fits pretty well, too, hugging her ample chest. The story revolves around Basara, a young man and powerful warrior who fights to defend his step-sister, the daughter of the last demon king, from other unsavory demons involved in a power struggle for rule of the demon world. She makes the list because in a world of devils and demons you can still use this line on her, “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” because she is an honest-to-goodness angel. She is also the mentor and aunt of the main character Basara, who is an ass-kicking force of good in his own right. She even cast some protective spells on him that has saved his life in one of Basara’s critical battles. She has the look and makes us wonder: just how do you talk to an angel?

Sergeant First Class Mari Kurokawa is a member other Japanese Self-Defense Force. She is member of the 3rd Recon Team in the Special Region, a region very different than modern day Japan, filled with elves, wizards, and dragons, accessed through a dimensional portal in Tokyo. She is in good physical condition and, despite wearing green military fatigues, is still a beauty. She has had combat training, and is a marksman, as all soldiers should be. The most important thing, other than her amazing blue eyes, is that she is a combat medic and a nurse. Sgt. Mari Kurokawa makes the list for her role in the unit -- that of big mama bear. She gives off an aura of grace and ladylike calm and takes the health and wellbeing of her team members personally. You’d better watch out if you get between her and the treatment of her patient. She also sets up a clinic in the Imperial Capital and administers aid to anyone who needs it, without judgment of class or profession.

Komugi is a struggling idol. She can sing and dance, but just hasn’t had her big break. She has determination and spirit, though. She doesn’t seem to get too depressed as her other idol friends become more and more popular, entertaining large crowds and getting guest roles on dramas, while she entertains crowds at the ribbon cutting of local stores in the shopping district. She rescues and performs first aid on Usa-p, a strange rabbit-like creature, who in turn offers to make her a “legendary girl,” a.k.a. a classic magical girl. She accepts and her weird triple life of being an idol, middle school girl, and magical girl. Komugi makes this list not for her medical skill, since she isn’t actually a nurse. She just dresses like one and seems to have a nursing theme in her magical spells. She makes the list for her purity; when you strip away Komugi’s roles as idol and magical, she’s just a little girl with a dream. We can also give her marks for her transformation into the Nurse Witch and the classic revealing costume.
